Demand the Impossible

A guided process of becoming, and the work that comes before the essay.

Promise

Students leave with a clearer sense of who they are becoming, and a first draft that sounds like them.

The problem

Most students are taught to be realistic: to choose what is safe, expected, already known. So when the essay prompt asks who they are, they reach for the answer they think someone wants. The problem is not a lack of ambition. It is that many have never been invited to imagine beyond what they have seen.

How it supports counselors

Counselors carry the essay, the application, and the conversation about what comes next, often with very little time per student.

Demand the Impossible does the identity work that usually happens too late or not at all. Students arrive at your door with a direction they can explain and a draft in their own voice, so your time goes to refining, not starting from nothing.

  • A written identity statement: the "I am someone who…" they can defend

  • A chosen direction, with reasons that hold up in a conversation or interview

  • A complete first draft of a letter in their own voice: a college essay, a job or internship letter, or a letter to their future self

  • An interest profile, read as a mirror, not a verdict
